The Chairman and Committee would like to welcome new members to our branch. We meet on the 1st Thursday of the month at the New Headingley Club.

The majority of members are ex matelots but we also have some very enthusiastic members who support the RNA and they are “Associate Members”. Our ex matelots cover the many branches of the surface and submarine fleet with an wide age range from a World War 2 Veteran to ex matelots who recently left the service.

Our main objective is to continue the comradeship we experienced and enjoyed in our serving days. One thing always at the forefront is naval humour-we spend a lot of our time enjoying the banter between the various departmental branches we were in. I was a Marine Engineer commonly known as a “Stoker” and therefore I get a lot of flak in spite of the way all the other departments rely on the Marine Engineering Department, as we always looked after the rest of the Navy!

We do of course have our serious side, looking after each other in times of need, as we have recently experienced with the ongoing Covid 19 Pandemic.

Each year we have at least one day trip or an overnight stay. Some members attend the annual rugby match at Twickenham between the Royal Navy and The Army. In October we always commemorate Trafalgar Day with a Naval Dinner and a tot of naval rum. This event is open for RNA guests and members. The Leeds RNA branch as is the City of Leeds is affiliated to an RN Submarine. The crew depending on operations like to attend our Trafalgar Night Dinner. We are also affiliated with HMS Ceres the Royal Naval Reserve which is based in Leeds.

So why not come and join us. All former and serving members of the Royal Navy including Royal Marines, Royal Naval Reserve, Merchant Marine Services, Lifeboat Crews, Sea Cadet and Marine Cadet Adult Volunteers including families of those who have served are most welcome (We even allow other services in to spin a few yarns as well). Come along and have a few wets while sharing your stories and ditties with old and new shipmates.

Either just turn up at one of our meetings or give any of the officers a ring. You will be made very welcome and I am sure you will enjoy it.
